The word itself stands for:
- S – specific, stretching, significant
- M – measureable, meaningful, motivational
- A – achievable, acceptable, action-orientated
- R – realistic, rewarding, results-orientated
- T – track-able, tangible, time-based
Each of the words represents what every business should be focusing on when using this concept on a daily basis.
“Specific” simply means that all details should be included as much as possible in what the goal actually means and how you hope to achieve it.
“Measurable” refers to setting criteria within your aims so your efforts should be measured according to the acknowledged latters.
‘’Achievable” is all about keeping your feet on the ground. It is okay to set your goals high and seems like a long way off at first, as long as that can be attained as the team working towards its development.
Similarly, “Realistic” is a reinforcing step to make sure it is possible for you and your team to reach a certain goal.
Last but not least, any goal needs to be “Time-based”, each set one should be assisted with a strictly timeline and deadline. Otherwise, without the sense of urgency, the goal may never be reached.
